What we did

THE PROJECT

Maru (also known as the K-Pod New Building Project) is built on the side of a reclaimed cliff. The main structure was formed using high-tech lightweight materials. This allowed the building to be clad in a highly insulated cladding and a Rooflogic roofing system supplied and installed by Turfrey, providing a high level of acoustic performance on this very exposed site. Turfrey also carried out the extensive plumbing, drainage and civil works to the site and building.

Working on the side of a cliff with a small site footprint proved challenging. With no space for storage or parking for trade vehicles, Hawkins and Turfrey had to develop a sequencing plan each week to ensure diggers and trucks had a position to set up and work without impeding others. This meant the site remained clean and tidy allowing easy access for workers as well as the day to day operations of the university.
